Walk through the city on a rainy winter day, and it is a sea of black. Black umbrellas, black suits, black coats, black pants…

I refuse to be one of those people.

Head to toe black just doesn’t do it for me, especially on a gloomy winter day. I dislike the darkness of winter as it is, so I just can’t bring myself to dress in such heavy hues. You may remember the Black Out challenge that I ran a few years ago – a national challenge that got people to ban black from their winter wardrobe for an entire week? It all came about from my desire to inject a little bit of colour back into winter dressing and to get people to think outside the box a little bit more.

This winter, black is taking a backseat in favour of all shades of grey. From ‘not-quite-white’ greys, to dark charcoal hues, grey is black’s more versatile and sophisticated big brother. Try an all grey outfit as a lighter alternative to head to toe black, or go for a little more subtly with selected grey accessories. Swapping your black for a base of grey will liven up our city one small change at a time!

P.S. Keep your eyes peeled for more information about a reviving of the Black Out Challenge this year!
