“The cure for anything is salt water: sweat, tears or the ocean”
Last night I was posed the question ‘do you ever really get time off?’. I didn’t even have to think about it… the simple answer is ‘no’. Even when I am at home alone, watching TV, I am still ‘working’ with my phone in hand, pen to paper or my computer in my lap. Sometimes it can all get a little overwhelming, exhausting even. There are times I feel so flustered I just don’t know what to do and end up going around in circles. Sometimes I am so tired I just want someone to pat my head and say nice things to me while I curl up into the foetal position. It is times like these when I need to remember – the cure for anything is salt water: sweat, tears or the ocean.
Sure, sometimes I cry, regroup and get on with it, but there really is nothing more soothing or cleansing than a trip to the ocean. Walking, cartwheeling, exercising or simply just lazing about and watching the waves roll in – the ocean brings on an immediate sense of calm. Even in winter, sitting on the shore with the salty, chilly breeze and slight warmth of the sun is blissful. We are so blessed to be able to reap the benefits of the ocean year round in WA, I guess that is why they call us the sand gropers. Whenever I can, I will escape to the ocean… even if it is for work and just a brief moment of solitude!
