It is every girl’s dream – flawless, radiant skin. But, how to attain it? Well there is a heck of a lot more to radiant skin than simply finding the right skincare products…
That is not to say that finding a good skin care range isn’t important – it is incredibly important! What you put on your skin has a huge impact on your complexion, obviously. For this reason, I always use natural and/or organic skincare products on my face. Many years ago, I got into the habit of punching the ingredients listed on the back of my skincare into this database, and the information that was pumped out was scary. For years companies got away with putting complex labelling on packages because consumers were none the wiser to what was actually in their products, nor did they know how to find out what 4-hydroxy- methyl ester benzoic acid actually was. Nowadays, we have so many great resources available to us to help us make more informed decisions about what we are putting onto our skin, there should really be no excuse for using something that isn’t right for you.
Personally, I have always loved the Jurlique range of products. My sensitive skin and mental block on using anything laden with chemicals, pushed me in the direction of Jurlique. Made from plants and flowers grown on their very own Australian biodynamic farm, their skincare is gentle yet effective. Bursting with natural products, if cleans and moisturises your skin without the use of any harsh nasties. While it isn’t officially USDA Organic certified, it is as close as you can get without actually having the stamp!
Making the right skincare choice is just one small part in the quest for clear, radiant skin. An incredibly important, and far less spoken about factor when it comes to healthy skin, is what is happening with your body internally. I was completely unawares of the importance that your gut flora plays in your complexion until I started using Carla Oates’ Inner Beauty Powder many years ago. Carla goes by the name ‘the beauty chef’ as she has created an entire line of digestible products that aim to improve your skin from the inside. She works on the idea that, if your body is healthy on the inside, it will glow on the outside – and it makes perfect sense! If you are unwell internally, it will show externally, so in taking a teaspoon of the berry flavoured inner beauty powder (made from over 20 fermented fruits, vegetables and grains) each day, you are taking all the right steps to improving the health of your gut and your skin.
Similarly, including cold pressed juices in your diet, or even doing a 1-day juice cleanse every so often, really helps to maintain good, healthy skin. Being a Perth local, I can’t go past a delivery of Pure Glow juices, but I am sure there are some just as great juice companies in other cities too.
Finally, watching your sleep patterns not only helps with your mental and gut health, but it also has a profound impact on your skin. During our sleep, our body goes into recovery and rebuilding mode, and if you are skipping out on your sleep, or are finding it hard to get a good sleep, your skin could be suffering. There is a reason it is called beauty sleep! If I find I am having trouble sleeping (or have had my sleeping patterns muffed up), I can’t look past a natural remedy like the Brauer sleep remedy. Just a few sprays under the tongue can make such a huge difference to how I sleep, and consequently, my skin. I have also started myself on the Brauer stress remedy too, as my body’s reaction to stress is a lot more than just a sick belly!
So, while I can’t wave a magic wand and make all your skin woes disappear, I can recommend some of my favourite products to help you take care of your body and your skin.
