If there is anything the athleisure trend has taught us, it is that people want an outfit with all of the comfort and ease, but without looking like they are wandering the aisles of Walmart. The rise in popularity of the satin slip can be partially attributed to this. Suddenly it was realised that you can have all of the comfort and ease, and still look sexy and/or chic. Comfort doesn’t have to mean tracksuit pants and Ugg boots.
What isn’t to love about something that is as simple and comfortable as the satin slip, but still elegant enough to be worn at any time of the day?
I have to admit, there was a while there where I thought a satin slip was just not going to work with my body. My obsession with shiny things never extended to satin slips for fear of them clinging on to my hips for dear life. However, in the last few months I have found many different styles that do in fact work for me. It seems that the global obsession with the slip dress has sparked spin off after spin off – something I can’t complain about when it is the spin offs that have worked for me! Belted, maxi length or wrap; layered or as is; silk, satin or velvet; with choker or without; there are just so many things you can do with the humble slip!
It is no wonder we are not yet done with this wardrobe staple…
